A hand pipe is the simplest way to smoke flower. There’s no water to change and nothing to set up: pack the bowl, light it and pull. Pipes are small enough to take anywhere, easy to clean, and cheap enough that most people own more than one.
We carry glass, silicone, metal and ceramic weed pipes, from simple spoons for a few bucks to art pieces from Red Eye Glass and Red Eye Tek.
The spoon is the classic glass pipe. It has a bowl on one end, a mouthpiece on the other and a carb on the side. Spoons are easy to pack, easy to hold and easy to clean, which makes them a great first pipe.
A Sherlock pipe has a long curved stem that drops below the bowl. The extra length gives the smoke a little more time to cool before it reaches you. Some, like the Gear Premium Odin Upright Sherlock, have a flat base so they stand up on their own.
A Gandalf pipe is the long, thin wizard style with the bowl way out at the end. The long draw makes for a smoother hit, and it just looks cool. The Red Eye Glass 9" Gandalf and the LIT Silicone 8" Gandalf are both solid picks.
A hammer pipe is shaped like, well, a hammer. Its flat bottom lets it sit upright on the table between hits, so you’re not spilling ash everywhere. The Gear Premium Joffre Hammer is a good one.
A steamroller is a straight tube with the bowl near one end and an open end you cover with your hand. Let go and you get a big, fast hit. They’re not for the faint of heart.
A one hitter holds just enough for a single pull. It’s discreet, it’s quick, and it’s easy on your stash. Check out our dugouts and one hitters for more.
A mug pipe looks like a regular coffee mug with a pipe built into the handle. Pieces like the Wake and Bake Mug Pipe make a great gift and a better conversation starter.
LIT Silicone pipes bounce instead of breaking, and most have a glass bowl insert so you’re not smoking through silicone. They come in fun shapes and are ideal for camping, hiking or anyone who’s clumsy.
Metal pipes are tough, cheap and fit in any pocket. A metal pipe is also the classic hash pipe, and plenty of people keep one as a backup.
Any pipe can smoke hash, but a small bowl and a screen make it a lot easier. Hash burns hotter and slower than flower, so drop a pipe screen in the bowl to keep it from getting pulled through. A small glass spoon or a metal pipe makes a great hash pipe.
Grind your flower and pack it into the bowl loosely, not tight. Cover the carb with your thumb, light the edge of the bowl and pull gently. When the chamber fills, let go of the carb and finish the pull to clear the smoke. Turn the pipe over and tap out the ash when the bowl is done.
Drop your pipe into a zip bag with isopropyl alcohol and a spoonful of coarse salt, shake it for a minute or two, then rinse it with warm water. Use a pipe cleaner to clear the stem and carb. If you stay on top of it, a quick soak every week or two keeps your pipe tasting fresh. A bong cleaner makes heavy buildup easier.
For your first pipe, go with a glass spoon. If you want smoother hits, try a Sherlock or Gandalf. For travel, a silicone or metal pipe won’t break in your bag. For something a little nicer, look at the Red Eye Tek Infinity Bowl pipes or Gear Premium’s lineup.
Red Eye Glass has been making glass in Vancouver since 2003 and makes a big part of our pipe selection. Red Eye Tek pipes come in the Terminator finish. Gear Premium makes thick, heavy pipes like the Joffre Hammer and Augusta Steam Roller. We also carry official Cheech & Chong pipes, Grateful Dead pipes, LIT Silicone, iRie and Jane West.
If you want a smoother hit than a dry pipe gives you, step up to a bubbler. It’s still handheld, but it adds water. Or go all in with a bong.
Keep your pipe and flower together in a stash box, or browse the rest of our weed accessories. Every order ships discreetly from our Vancouver warehouse.
